This past World Fisheries Day, on 21st November 2025, I had the privilege of attending a global forum that brought into focus the often-overlooked inland fisheries. Organized by TBTI Global, the webinar brought together researchers, students, government officials, and representatives from various national, regional, and global organizations.

The book ‘The Beauty and the Bounty at Risk’ is the first e-book on small-scale fisheries in Nepal, offering insights of different aspects of the small-scale fisheries such as fishing technology, socio-economics, environmental issues, and governance.

As in his previous writing and the first two books, and even more so in this one, Svein brings wisdom from philosophers and big thinkers in social sciences into fisheries discourse, which helps broaden our understanding about small-scale fisheries and transform how we approach them in research, and in governance.

We are inviting submissions for an upcoming e-book focused on marine and inland small-scale fisheries in Brazil, which will be published in the TBTI Global Publication Series. This e-book is supported by SIANI as part of the Expert Group on Small-Scale Fisheries in Latin America.

The e-book features contributions from emerging and amateur writings who participated in the NL Writes Short Story Competition. The competition emphasized inclusive participation, reflection, and dialogue, while featuring mentorship, feedback, and celebration.

The Kamogawa Shuppan Publisher has started featuring Dr. Yinji Li’s series of essays on small-scale fisheries, ‘Fisheries Sustainability from the Age of 13: SMALL Protects the World’.

‘Girls Who Fish’ activities are being developed in Canada and Japan to contribute to the improvement of gender issues, with the view that ‘women’ and ‘gender’ are important factors in realizing the sustainability of small-scale fisheries.

This special issue presents critical global topics on women and gender in fisheries, addressing intersecting issues such as labour, migration organizations, participation in the public sphere, property rights in fisheries and aquaculture, climate change, and capacity building.

Authors in this thematic collection have gathered together voices from researchers and practitioners from around the world, with one overarching common approach of using a gender lens to examine the relationship between humans and aquatic resources.

This special issue explores the importance of small-scale fisheries to food systems and food security at local, regional, and global levels.

This special issue represents a unique collection of emergent and pressing issues related to small-scale fisheries in Latin America, built on the outcomes from the TBTI workshop in Curitiba, Brazil (august 2013), and the 2nd World Small-Scale Fisheries Congress in Merida, Mexico (September 2014).

This article provides an overview of the ways in which policies of enclosure, privatization, and deregulation have unfolded in several regions of North America and discusses the consequences these processes have had for small-scale fisheries.
