Call for contribution for an upcoming e-book

We are inviting submissions for an upcoming e-book focused on small-scale fisheries in Chile, which will be published in the TBTI Global Publication Series. 

Chile’s Co-Management Revolution

 

Chile’s Co-Management Revolution is a collaborative e-book that highlights how small-scale fisheries are Too Big To Ignore, and have found co-management to be an essential tool for ensuring their sustainability. Through testimonies, analyses, and case studies, the book traces the trajectory of Territorial Use Rights for Fisheries (TURFs/AMERBs), Fisheries Management Committees, Management Plans in open access areas, Marine Refuges and other management regimes, while addressing current challenges related to climate change, gender equity, illegal fishing, and value chains, among others. This work, organized for the future of TBTI Chile Hub in coordination with Co-Management2030+ and the UN Ocean Decade, aims to position Chile as a global reference in the co-management of small-scale fisheries, based on the lessons and the reflections shared in the e-book.

Since the e-book is intended as the starting point for building the TBTI Chile Hub (https://tbtiglobal.net), the call is designed to be open and inclusive, inviting contributions from a wide range of voices —fishers, women, youth, indigenous peoples, scientists, practitioners, NGOs, managers and policy makers. In doing so, the project will not only result in a book but also help weave a stronger community that connects Chile’s small-scale fisheries with the global TBTI network.

  2. Chapter confirmation: January 15, 2025.

Llamado a Contribuciones: La Revolución del Co-Manejo en Chile

La Revolución del Co-Manejo en Chile es un e-book colaborativo que muestra cómo las pesquerías de pequeña escala —Too Big To Ignore— han encontrado en el co-manejo una herramienta esencial para garantizar su sostenibilidad. A través de testimonios, análisis y estudios de caso, el libro revela la trayectoria de las Áreas de Manejo (AMERB), los Comités de Manejo, los Planes de Manejo en áreas de libre acceso y los Refugios Marinos, junto con los desafíos actuales frente al cambio climático, la equidad de género, la pesca ilegal y las cadenas de valor. Este trabajo, impulsado por el Hub TBTI Chile y en articulación con Co-Management2030+ y la Década de los Océanos de la ONU, busca posicionar a Chile como un referente global en co-manejo de pesquerías artesanales.

Este e-book marca además el punto de partida para la construcción de la Red TBTI Chile (https://tbtiglobal.net). Por ello, hacemos un llamado abierto e inclusivo, invitando a voces diversas —pescadores, mujeres, jóvenes, pueblos originarios, científicos y gestores— a sumarse con sus experiencias y reflexiones. De esta manera, buscamos no solo consolidar un libro, sino también tejer una comunidad amplia que fortalezca la pesca artesanal en Chile y la conecte con la red global TBTI.
