We are inviting submissions for an upcoming e-book focused on marine and inland small-scale fisheries in Brazil, which will be published in the TBTI Global Publication Series. This e-book is supported by SIANI as part of the Expert Group on Small-Scale Fisheries in Latin America.

This book aims to enhance understanding of how various factors influence the economic and social well-being of artisanal fishers, their families, and their communities, while also documenting their coping strategies for sustaining livelihoods.

About the book

This e-book seeks to consolidate widely dispersed information on fishing activities and communities in Brazil, covering– but not limited to – topics such as management and regulation, socioeconomics, pollution, gender and public policies, and culture, while remaining open to other relevant themes.

As a contributor, you will have the opportunity to share your unique perspectives, experiences, and knowledge on small-scale fisheries in Brazil and be appropriate acknowledge as the author of your respective chapter.

All contributions must be written in Portuguese and include an extended abstract (up to two pages) in English and/or Spanish.

The e-book will feature three key sections

  1. Dialogues – Chapters resulting from interactions among fishing governance stakeholders (fishers, managers, researchers, etc.). We encourage submissions documenting and reflecting on experiences in small-scale fisheries, co-authored by individuals in at least two different roles (e.g., fisher + researcher).

  1. Scientific Contributions – Research-based texts presenting findings from studies and projects related to traditional fishing activities.

  1. Fishers’ Voices – Texts by fishers and their leaders, sharing their reflections and/or results on the proposed themes. Editors will provide support for writing these contributions (collaboration methods will be further defined).
