The article highlights the importance, diversity, and challenges of small-scale fisheries in both the Global North and South, emphasizing the need to reframe their value beyond size, toward their socio-economic, cultural, and ecological roles. It critically addresses the underappreciation and misperceptions that small-scale fisheries are relevant only in developing countries, drawing attention to small-scale fisheries’ global significance.
