We are excited to announce the forthcoming publication of an e-book focusing on small-scale fisheries in Malaysia, to be published in the TBTI Global Publication Series. We cordially invite you to contribute your valuable insights and expertise to this collaborative project.
Small scale fisheries provide the main source of income and protein for a large proportion of coastal communities in Malaysia. However, fishers are generally poor, lack ownership of productive assets, lack market power, have restricted fishing access, obtain low fish catch, and receive unfair distribution of benefits. Marine fisheries are overexploited and the small-scale fisheries are being adversely affected by destructive fishing activities, pollution of marine habitat and climate change, which threaten fisheries resources and livelihoods of small-scale fisheries households. This book aims to contribute to a better understanding of how various factors affect the economic and social wellbeing of small-scale fishers in Malaysia, their families and their communities, as well as learn about their coping strategies for sustaining better livelihoods.

A New E-Book about Small-Scale Fisheries of Malaysia
About the E-book
This E-book aims to consolidate widely scattered information about small-scale fisheries communities in Malaysia, related to topics such as fishing income, occupation and aging, fisheries overexploitation and pollution, mobility and migration, conflicts over access to resources, women in fisheries, access to fishing, role of institutions for fisheries management and power relations, into a single volume. In addition to the publication, the content of the E-book will also be integrated into the web-based, open-access Information System on Small-Scale Fisheries (ISSF; https://issfcloud.toobigtoignore.net/) developed by TBTI. As a contributor, you will have the opportunity to share your unique perspectives, experiences, and knowledge about small-scale fisheries in Malaysia, and be properly recognized for your contribution as the author of your respective chapter.

Also, we welcome case studies that explore how social, economic and environmental factors negatively affect the livelihoods of fishers, and the coping strategies to improve livelihood outcomes for small scale fisher households of Malaysia.
